Method of Calculating Chequesum
The cheque digit is the routing number's ninth digit and must meet the following criteria.
3(d1 + d4 + d7) + 7(d2 + d5 + d8) + (d3 + d6 + d9) mod 10 = 0
(Mod or modulo is the remainder of a division operation.)
As an example, the routing number of Bank Of America, Virginia is 011900571. So, according to the chequesum calculation method -
1 | 1 | 9 | 5 | 7 | 1 | |||
D1 | D2 | D3 | D4 | D5 | D6 | D7 | D8 | D9 |
3(0 + 9 + 5) + 7(1 + 0 + 7) + (1 + 0 + 1) =100
100 mod 10 = 0
