Is it too early to talk about the biggest Ice Bowl in Texas? Brian Schmidt and Chris Himing will team up to put on one he11 of a show in January, 2004. Our goal: $5,000 for our charity. Live Oak was number 4 last year, and 15th overall nationwide since Ice Bowls began. Lets make Live Oak number one next year! Start pounding the streets for sponsors and point them my way. Thanks!!

Sep 12 2003, 11:45 AM
I have them all Huge. See me either day and I will have one for you.
At 10am on Sunday the Major will say a few words before we tee off so please do not be late.
I will be in the park around 9am to take entries for the Ace Race and give you your packages. See Brian for entry to the mini.
The mini will be held from the "Ace Race" tees as well. Brian will let you know but I doubt he will want the regular ace pot in that. I am thinking I will put a bonus up for anyone that shoots better than an 18 underhttp://www.pdga.com/discus/clipart/happy.gif
After the mini we will have a quick bite to eat then play a one disc, one throw round for all the prizes.
See you there Sunday.
Sep 12 2003, 12:09 PM
Correct, Chris, our $258 ace pot will be "OB" for this event http://www.pdga.com/discus/clipart/happy.gif However, $3 per player from the $7 entry fee will go to the mini ace pot for the day. In other words, if we have 50 players, $150 will be in the ace pot for the first round. Most aces winning the entire pot seems better than splitting $150 30 ways. Ties for most aces split the pot. The CTP I normally run will be suspended for this event in the interest of time. I'll add something to the better than -18 bonus too. My regular mini payout will be in force for the first round, $$ for Open, points towards merchandise for ams. Then Chris takes over and does the payout for the second round.
Hope you can make it Alex, but with your big arm, you may need to throw minis, left handed, or with your feet http://www.pdga.com/discus/clipart/happy.gif

Live Oak in Texas held a very fun event. With the course half under water just 3 days before we expected the worst. Somehow come Sunday we only had to move 3 holes away from the lake.
The City Major and City Manager (he played) opened the event for us and welcomed disc golf to the city. Live Oak is a huge supporter of disc golf and we thank them for everything they do.
39 players turned up but we sold 75 packages to friends and others the day before. A Texas 10 event in Round Rock the day before and the threat of bad weather hurt the turnout.
During the short lunch break the heavens opened up and dumped buckets of water on us. As it turned out the culvert that runs the middle of the course filled and made for some fun holes and water shots.
We only played about 3 holes in the rain before it cleared nicely and the fun continued.
No aces despite the short fun holes. 3 players hit metal during the round. We all had a huge amount of fun throwing off for all the cool Discraft prizes. The grand prize winner was John E Riley.
Thanks to Discraft, the City of Live Oak and all the players that supported this fun event. See you on the course again soon.

Chile,Everything is O.K, Just had a life change nothing major, Ive been driving 90 round trip to work for the last three years. I put 28,000 miles on my truck last year it was not worth it anymore .Contemplating moving to Austin or Dallas .The good thing is Ive been able to practice alot and since I turn 40 this august, in January just maybe I'll come up and give you some comp. Thanks for asking see you in Lewisville.Oh yea I almost forgot I'll be in LIVVVVE OAAAAK on the 8th.
Nov 01 2003, 12:55 AM
Its looking more and more like I will not be able to make the Nov. 8th tourney. Daymn the work!
Nov 01 2003, 09:09 AM
Work can wait, Jerald! I know mine is.
Billy, move to SA /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
I have ACDC bag tags for sale now. Probably should have taken them all along. Jerald, how does this thing end, and to what purpose?
Nov 01 2003, 09:12 AM
For the November 8 AAFPM classic, each player will receive either a Z-wildcat or first run crush in their players package. Outback is backing out on the free dinner deal, and wants cash. Joe M. and I are working on options.
Nov 01 2003, 02:56 PM
Brian, on the tag thing I kind-of feel like that was an idea I put out there and then Ruben ran with. I really had little involvement with it. However, I am always willing to throw my 2 cents in. I think that the money should go to either a course sign or to replace some of the different baskets at UC. As long as it is used to upgrade our courses, I'll be happy.
Nov 01 2003, 07:55 PM
Jerald, It hasn't generated the amount of cash I thought it would. The expenses to get the tags made were a lot higher than I thought they should be, so we have about $200. I doubt that will help to improve the courses much. I'd love to use that money to get some extra goodies for the AAFPM classic.
Nov 02 2003, 03:08 AM
My understanding of the costs leads me to think that there should be more like $500-$600 there. This is exactly the kind of thing I was hoping would not happen. Like I said earlier, I had an idea and then no further involvement. I never collected a dime and so my input is no more valid than anyone elses.

quick synopsis: Rt Evans has 3 stroke lead over Keith Baker and Mark Vargas going into Ace Golf. Keith Baker hits 3 Aces and 1 metal and Rt hits 1 metal, Mark hits 2 metals. Baker wins by 5 strokes, RT 2nd, Vargas 3rd. I got 1 ace 2 metals good enough to hang on to 4th. .almost made up 4 strokes on Vargas but he beats me by 1. Barely held off Mr Rene Torres who had 2 aces but no metal. So each ACE you hit you got $15. plus payout for top 6. IT WAS AWESOME!! THANKS again Brian and STAFF. ( wife and a guy I always forget his name) 2 kegs and FREE STEAK Dinner..
OH YEA, BEAT PDP as WELL. :D

I frequently travel right by the Live Oak course when I go to teach rock climbing. This past weekend, Andi suggested that we leave early on Friday so that we could play it and I agreed.
WOW! What a course! Many thanks to local Calvin Smith who took the time to usher us around. It is an awesome course! It has a pretty good balance of every kind of shot and loads of elevation changes. Getting off the fairways and into the rough at times could be brutally punishing.
Many thanks to Mark Vargas who provided me with a course map as we were dashing off at the end. The course certainly got the better of me this time, but I will return! :D

There are some new drudgers in the water at Live Oak and they are not friendly. Beware! We saw them getting discs out as Mark was about to get in and we asked them if our discs were in their bag of about 20. They said that they had gone in the water to get them and all of the discs were theirs. I asked them to look for my firebird with my name on it and he refused. Oooh I was mad. After a few choice words we parted, but beware! They had a large black dog and a girl with them in a group of about six. One guy had a cowboy hat on. He was the drudger. I wish I could have followed them because I wouldn't doubt if they new where the "missing" basket is also.

LIVVVVVVVVE OAK! Not trying to spam your thread too bad here, but I wanted to get you guys the 411 on the upcoming GCCS event on your wonderful course. This event could have a HUGE ace pot if no one hits it at the Bass stop VERY likely to not be hit there)...
Also, you don't need to plan on playing any of the other events for this to be a not miss event. Just for signing up you will get a nice players pack (AMS) that is not taken out of payout AND be supporting the Live Oak Ice bowl at the same time. For those of you who have never been to a Team Disaster event, they are run in a very timely manner, have nice payout that you get to pick and are laid back in general. Please shoot me an email at [emailprotected] if you have any questions!
New Gulf Coast Championship Series Information (last 4 stops 2004)
MORE BANG FOR YOUR BUCK IN THE AMATEUR DIVISION
The Moffitt Gulf Coast Championship Series stop was very successful and there is a full report at the bottom of this update. Before we get to that, let me start out with the big news about the GCCSs last three qualifiers and the finale. With the implementation of the new PDGA B-tier guidelines, each of the last four GCCS events will be providing a players pack for all the Amateurs valued at $10 to $15 per event. 100% of the cost of this players pack is being purchased through the generosity of our sponsors. Because of this, the traditional fat payout at GCCS events will not be effected! Payout will be WAY over 100%. Check out http://teamdisasterdiscgolf.com/gccs_moffitt.html to see the payout from the Moffitt stop.
SPONSORS
This big change in the series is only made possible through the generosity of our sponsors. Anyone can sponsor and get recognition at the events for a plastic or cash donation. Please contact me directly at [emailprotected] if you would like to get involved.

PRO GCCS IS NOW BACK TO C-TIER STATUS
The last for events of this years series (Bass, Live Oak, MacGregor and the Bass Finale) will be C-tiers for the pro divisions.
ACE POT CARRY OVER
No ace has been hit at the first two events leaving a carry over ace pot of $375. We expect the ace pot to be well over $600 for the January 11th Bass Stop.
NEXT STOP IS BASS FOLLOWED BY LIVE OAK THE NEXT WEEKEND
The remaining events are GCCS #3 Bass Stop - January 11th, GCCS #4 Live Oak Stop - January 18th, GCCS#5 MacGregor - February 8th and GCCS #6 Bass Finale - February 15th. Remember you have to play in two of the first five events to qualify for the bonus payout at the Finale. Payout will be way over 100% for Amateurs at each event, but if you qualify for the bonus payout at the Finale, the payout gets CRAZY large. Remember we have flex start $$Big Money Doubles$$ the Saturday before each event, and you ALWAYS get to pick your winnings at Team Disaster
Events. For more details, please visit www.teamdisasterdiscgolf.com (http://www.teamdisasterdiscgolf.com) or sign up at www.titledisc.com (http://www.titledisc.com)
FUNDRAISING
Remember, each time you enter a GCCS event or a $$Big Money Doubles$$ event, $1 of your entry fee goes to the Houston Food Bank (Waco, Moffitt, Bass, MacGregor, Bass) or the Live Oak Ice Bowl (Live Oak).
MOFFITT REPORT
We had a nice turnout and a GREAT weekend for golf out at Moffitt. I was very impressed that Jim Davidson (-19) broke his jinx on Moffitt during competition. That 1022 rated round may be the best round ever shot in tournament competition at Moffitt.
Moffitt obviously sets up well for lower divisions to shoot GREAT scores - for the 2nd year in a row, a player NOT in the Advanced division shot the best AM score at the Tourney. Some GREAT shooting by Jim Bridges (-11)!
Rick Coleman (-10) missed winning the AM trophy by ONE stroke out of the Adv. Masters division (The first time we have ever had an Adv. Master Division at a GCCS event). Where have you been hiding Rick! Of course Matt Hall, the winner of the lowest AM score last year from the NOVICE division (yes this was back before Matts big jump in play and back when the PDGA still called the division NOVICE back in 2002) would have put all the AMS to shame if he had played AM with his 15 total. Rumor is that he will be back spanking the Advanced division at Bass on the 2nd weekend of February at GCCS stop #3. Either way, great shooting Matt and way to grab some of that unsanctioned cash.
DeAtra Edwards (+10) took the hotly contested Womens Advanced division with a smoking 66 during the 2nd round. In other divisions, Justin Ashton (-9) took Advanced, Marty Cooper (-2) took Recreational, Andi Lehmann (+3) took Womens Open, and Karen Crites (+32) took Womens Recreational.

Still waiting for the last weeks results. I need to see it for myself. :)
Dec 12 2003, 12:36 PM
Hi all, been in Portland Oregon since Monday. Sorry Gimp, we don't have an email list that is readily available. Posting it here is cool, and I'll print your email and take to the mini this Sunday.
Hope to have results up on Monday for last week. Sorry, D!
Dec 12 2003, 12:45 PM
Cool - Thanks! Does anyone remember if I flyer is still posted out at the course. I can send someone a nice laminated one if they are willing to post it - please please please :)

Dec 12 2003, 04:34 PM
Thanks Brian. :D
John- I am not sure where we would put it. I don't know if we have access to the safe spot. Thats what our bag tags are going to get us. Brian will be able to tell you more.
Dec 12 2003, 04:48 PM
True, we really do not have a bulletin board to post stuff on. Live Oak has a locked one that we can't access, but they have agreed to use the bag tag proceeds to buy material to build us a nice one, hopefully like Round Rock's which is awesome. Word of mouth works best around here for now!
Dec 12 2003, 04:52 PM
I have had a few phone calls and emails about early Ice Bowl registrations. Sure, it would be great if everyone signed up early, but I'm realistic. There should be plenty of room for everyone who wants to play, so either sign up early, or sign up that morning and we'll make room, even if we play 8 on a card (just kidding! :D ) Live Oak has plenty of room.
Live Oak Ice Bowl January 10, 2004!!!!!!!! Be a part of history!
Dec 13 2003, 07:21 PM
I'll be there, looking forward to playing that awsome course and giving to the community and not just my competitors /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
where can i get another bag tag? My tags fell off of my bag and need to replace.
Dec 15 2003, 05:00 PM
Martin, I have the bag tags. You can get one at the Ice Bowl January 10, or come down and play in one of our Sunday mini's. Ace pot is at $300+ and climbing fast!
Glad you're coming!

Dec 23 2003, 03:21 AM
Yep - I was asking how many holes they played at the mini lol :D
I have never gotten a copy of the map of the 36 hole format. Does anyone out there in disc golf land have one? Shoot me an email at [emailprotected] and I'll send you an address than can take large files.
Dec 23 2003, 09:46 AM
I remember seeing maps for the city hall course and the lake course for the Live Oak Summer Open and the Texas 10. In this format, there are several temporary holes (some of which are becoming permament.) Check with Mark Atwood or Chris Himing and see if they have the course maps for those layouts. The original 28 hole course map can be found here... http://www.ci.live-oak.tx.us/Documents/golfcard.pdf
And quit your smackin, or you'll get a whackin

Dec 23 2003, 09:52 AM
All the maps I had done were hand drawn. I printed off the existing maps and hand drew in the alternate holes. Gimp are you going to do the 36 holes layout or just use the existing? I don't have a fax but can draw the extra holes very easily. Let me know how we can do it and I will help out.
I will try to remember to bring a case of Ziegen Light next Sunday to UC. That wind was nasty the other day. I want to shoot that well without wind and see what score I can get.

Dec 23 2003, 10:53 AM
Brian, is Live Oak going to be 36 holes?
Dec 23 2003, 01:05 PM
That's strawberry blonde stepchild to you sir!
James, there's a 36 hole layout with some temp holes, and I believe two additional permament holes have been put in for a total of 30 now. It's is the city's plan to have a full 36 or even more when they acquire the land. RT probably knows more than I do about it. Chime in, music man!
Nelle 18131
Dec 23 2003, 03:07 PM
Strawberry blonde step-chizzild!
It is still 28 for now. I think they are working on the other tee boxes but no permanent holes as of today.
